Ditto keeps every copy in a local database, so last week's quotes are still there after restarts. Press Ctrl+`, type a word from the quote or source, and press Enter to paste. Shift+Enter pastes as plain text, which keeps a website's fonts out of your essay.

Don't build bibliography entries from copied URLs. Save the source in a reference manager such as Zotero, then copy the formatted citation or bibliography entry from it. What students can skip

• Paid clipboard managers. Their extra features, such as cross-device sync and advanced macros, are rarely worth it for coursework.
• Clipboard tools that send text to an online AI service. Check what leaves your PC before pasting essays or exam work into any tool, and follow your course's rules on AI use.
• More than one clipboard history. Running Win+V and Ditto together means two copies of everything. Once Ditto is set up, turn off Win+V history in Settings > System > Clipboard.
