Edge Drop 0.3.1: Emoji Picker on the Shelf

Edge Drop 0.3.1 (changelog date 8 September 2026) puts a full emoji picker in the shelf’s top filter bar. That is the headline. It is not a new OS emoji keyboard, and it does not replace Win+. (Windows logo key + period).
edgedrop.app is still a local Windows clipboard shelf: hover the edge or Alt+C, stage text, links, images, and files, drag out with OLE. No account, no cloud, no telemetry of copies. Apache-2.0 by Deepender Yadav. Store 9P3JMHN9M4NR. GitHub Deepender25/Edge-Drop.
0.3.1 also ships a UI refresh, clearer link cards, duplicate-capture fixes, autostart hardening, and 31 languages including RTL. This notes post sticks to that list. It does not invent extras.

Keep Win+. for documents and chat when your hands are on the keyboard and the caret is where you want the glyph. Use the shelf picker when the shelf is already open and you want to drop an emoji into the app that still has focus.
The shelf still does not make Win+V remember more than 25 text/HTML/bitmap items, 4 MB each, with unpinned wipe on restart. Emoji you *copy* as text can land in both places. Emoji you *insert* with Win+. may never become a history card.
What 0.3.1 actually added (8 Sep 2026)
From the project changelog:
Emoji picker (New). Full library in the top filter bar. Categories, recent, skin tone, and paste into the active application without focus loss.
Cleaner UI (New). Redesigned circular category buttons with a sliding pill that matches dark card tones; bundled Plus Jakarta Sans and JetBrains Mono; richer card footers (file sizes, image dimensions, copy counts); unified sheet animations; flatter settings toggles.
Link cards (Improved). Copied web links show the full destination URL under the page title. Clicking empty shelf space closes preview flyouts so you do not paste by accident.
Copy indicator (Improved). Edge feedback when you copy in other apps; muted when you click Copy *inside* the shelf so the beacon does not flash twice.
Clipboard and file fixes. Duplicate captures from Explorer or spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets) reduced; copied image files route to the Images tab; relative timestamps keep aging.
Windows integration. Quoted-path autostart for usernames or folders with spaces, with legacy registry healing; adaptive dark/light tray icon; in-app update download progress and single-click restart on GitHub builds.
31 languages + RTL (Improved). Translations include the new picker and language selector. Arabic, Hebrew, and Persian get native right-to-left layout.
That is the confirmed set. If a screenshot on social media shows something else, wait for a newer changelog.
How to get 0.3.1
Install or update from https://www.edgedrop.app.
- Confirm you want the clipboard shelf, not Microsoft’s retired Edge pane.
- GitHub NSIS: in-app auto-update from Releases, then restart.
- Store MSIX: wait for the Store to offer the package. Do not invent how many days that takes — check the listing version.
- After update, hover the edge. The picker sits in the top filter bar with All / Text / Links / Images / Files.
- Open it, pick a category or recent, set skin tone if needed, paste.

When Edge Drop fits / does not
0.3.1 fits if you already use the shelf and want emoji from the filter bar without the OS panel stealing focus, or you needed the duplicate-capture / autostart fixes.
Do not use Edge Drop if:
- You only needed Win+. GIFs and kaomoji. The 0.3.1 picker does not claim those.
- You needed Microsoft’s retired OneDrive Drop on a phone.
- You expected a text expander (
:smile:as you type). That is Espanso / PhraseExpress. - You expected the picker to raise Win+V past 25 items.
- You do not want a clipboard shelf at all — stay on the OS emoji panel.

FAQ
Does the picker replace Win+.? No. Win+. still inserts into the focused field, including GIFs and symbols. The shelf picker is for paste-without-focus-loss from the edge UI.
Which build gets 0.3.1 first? GitHub Releases is where the project publishes. The Store follows Store certification. Check the version string on your install.
Did this restore Microsoft Edge Drop? No. Browser Drop stayed retired in Edge 152. This is a clipboard-shelf release.
Do I need 0.3.1 just for emoji? No. Upgrade for duplicate-capture and autostart fixes if those were your bugs. If you only insert emoji from the keyboard, Win+. is enough.
