How to Change Edge Drop's Language (and RTL Layout)

To change Edge Drop's language, right-click the tray icon, select Settings, and on the Behaviour tab choose a language from the Language dropdown at the top of General & Startup. Edge Drop offers 31 languages plus System Default (Auto), which follows your Windows language. Arabic, Persian and Hebrew switch the interface to a right-to-left (RTL) layout automatically.

How to change the language

1. Right-click the Edge Drop icon in the system tray (it may be under the arrow that shows hidden icons) and select Settings.
2. Open the Behaviour tab.
3. Under General & Startup, open the Language dropdown. It's the first setting in that section.
4. Select a language, or System Default (Auto) to follow Windows.

The language setting isn't on the Appearance tab, which holds only the copy indicator, text size and sound settings.

What System Default (Auto) does

System Default (Auto) is the starting value. Edge Drop matches your Windows language to one of its 31 languages and falls back to English (US) if there's no match. Choosing a specific language overrides that, and Edge Drop then keeps that language whatever Windows is set to. Select System Default (Auto) again to go back to following Windows.

The 31 languages

How the right-to-left layout works

For Arabic, Persian and Hebrew, Edge Drop sets its interface direction to right-to-left, so its labels and layout read from the right the way RTL readers expect. Nothing else needs to be configured.

Two things don't change:

• The screen edge. Choosing an RTL language doesn't move the shelf. Its position is set separately by Edge Placement on the Position tab (Left Edge, Top Edge or Right Edge). If you'd like the shelf on the right, move the Edge Drop shelf to the right edge.
• What you copied. The language setting only translates Edge Drop's own labels. Clipboard items are stored and pasted exactly as you copied them, in any script, so an Arabic interface can hold English, Japanese or Hindi text side by side.

Making text easier to read

If a script looks small at the default size, change Text size on the Appearance tab under Typography. There are three options: Small (0.85×), Normal (1.0×, the default) and Large (1.15×). Text size isn't shown when the shelf is docked to the top edge. Edge Drop's settings explained lists every option.

FAQ

Does Edge Drop's language change Windows' language?

No. It only affects Edge Drop. Windows display language is set in Windows Settings.

Why is Edge Drop in English when Windows isn't?

With System Default (Auto), Edge Drop falls back to English (US) if your Windows language isn't one of its 31. Pick the closest language manually in the Language dropdown.

A translation looks wrong. Where can I report it?
