What Happened to Microsoft Edge Drop in 2026?
Microsoft retired Drop, the Microsoft Edge feature for sending files and notes between your own devices, in Edge 152, released to the Stable channel on August 27, 2026. It isn't hidden behind a setting, and no later version brings it back. Microsoft says files you shared through Drop are saved in OneDrive, and text notes had to be downloaded separately.
The Windows app called Edge Drop at edgedrop.app is a different product: an independent clipboard manager that was never part of Microsoft Edge and wasn't affected by the change. Edge Drop the app is made by the team behind this site.
What Microsoft Edge Drop was
Drop lived in the Edge sidebar on desktop and in the Edge mobile app. You signed in to Edge with the same Microsoft account on each device, then dropped a file, photo or typed note into Drop on one device and opened it on another, like a message thread with yourself. Files were stored in your OneDrive and counted against its storage.
It was a way to move things between devices. It didn't keep a clipboard history and didn't work outside Edge.
When Drop was retired

Both quotes are from Microsoft's Edge Stable channel release notes. Edge has moved on to later versions since, and Drop hasn't returned. Microsoft's old Drop feature page now says the feature is no longer available.
Where are my Drop files and notes?
- Files and photos: open OneDrive with the Microsoft account you used in Edge and search for the file names. Microsoft says files shared through Drop are saved there.
- Text notes: Microsoft's notice said these needed to be downloaded separately before the retirement. If you saved them, they're wherever you downloaded them. Microsoft hasn't documented a way to recover notes after Drop was removed.
Holding Edge on an older version to keep Drop isn't a good plan: Microsoft no longer supports the feature, and an out-of-date browser misses security fixes.

Is the Edge Drop app made by Microsoft?
No. Edge Drop (edgedrop.app) is a free, open-source clipboard manager for Windows 10 and 11, licensed under Apache 2.0. Its Microsoft Store listing is published by "Deepender", not Microsoft Corporation, and its source is on GitHub under the Deepender25 account. Being sold through the Microsoft Store doesn't make an app a Microsoft product.

The app opens as a shelf when the cursor touches the left, right or top edge of the screen, or with Alt+C. It records text, links, images and files you copy, and you click a card to paste it or drag images and files into other apps. It can't send anything to your phone or another PC, so it doesn't replace Microsoft's Drop. What is Edge Drop? explains it in more detail.
How to check you have the real Edge Drop app
- Microsoft Store: product ID 9P3JMHN9M4NR, publisher "Deepender".
- GitHub: releases come from the
Deepender25/Edge-Droprepository, which has an Apache 2.0 license file. - Website: edgedrop.app.
- Behaviour: it runs on the desktop, not in a browser, and never asks you to sign in.

How is the app's name spelled?
Edge Drop, EdgeDrop and Edge-Drop all refer to the same app when they point to edgedrop.app. The brand is written Edge Drop; the app's own window and its GitHub repository use the hyphenated form, and the web address runs the words together. When you search, add "clipboard" to find the app, or "Microsoft Edge" to find news about the retired feature.
FAQ
Can I get Drop back in Microsoft Edge?
No. It was removed in Edge 152, and Microsoft hasn't provided any way to turn it back on in later versions.
Did Microsoft delete my Drop files?
Microsoft says files shared through Drop are saved in OneDrive. Check OneDrive with the account you used in Edge.
Is the Edge Drop app Microsoft's replacement for Drop?
No. It's an unrelated third-party clipboard manager that works on one PC. For moving files between devices, use LocalSend, Nearby sharing, Phone Link or OneDrive.
Does turning on Win+V clipboard history replace Drop?
No. Win+V keeps recent copies on one PC, and its optional sync shares only text between Windows PCs signed in to the same account. It doesn't send files or reach your phone.
