Paste, Place, or drop a screenshot into Photoshop once. Keep the PNG on disk so the next Ctrl+C cannot erase the remaining copy as documented.

Win+Shift+S copies a snip to the clipboard first. A PNG in Pictures\Screenshots is only a Snipping Tool setting, not an automatic guarantee.

Text actions pull words out of a snip. They do not keep the image, name it, or survive the next copy. OCR is not a visual asset shelf as documented.

Win+V keeps at most 25 mixed items and drops large bitmaps. Use the Screenshots folder, ShareX save, or a short-lived shelf for the last ten shots.

Disk is durable and named. Win+V is fast but limited to 25 items, 4 MB, and a reboot wipe unless pinned. Default to the Screenshots folder as documented.

Mark up a snip in Snipping Tool or ShareX, then save a clean original. OS pens are enough for one arrow, not for a full design system as documented.

Put references on a second monitor, in PureRef, or on a pull-tab shelf. Alt-Tab into Win+V is a poor lightbox and it drops large bitmaps on Windows 11 today.

Stage thumbnail variants as named PNG files, then drop them into Canva or Photoshop. Do not keep tests only on the clipboard or in YouTube Studio.

OBS Image sources point at files on disk. A live clipboard paste does not survive a restart or a scene reload. Export, then browse to the PNG.

PowerToys copies HEX onto the clipboard. Pin the text or paste it into tokens. A screenshot is not a swatch library, and Win+V stays tiny on Windows 11 today.

Some apps paste SVG markup as text. Others paste pixels. Windows history stores text, HTML, and bitmap — not a first-class “vector object” type.

Drag the layer, Duplicate Layer, or copy pixels. Smart Objects and file Place are not the same as Ctrl+C. Windows history only sees a bitmap if you copy.

Edit > Preferences > Clipboard Handling decides whether Word gets a muddy bitmap or a PDF. SVG and AICB are the other switches that change paste.

Premiere’s Export Frame writes a file. After Effects can copy a rendered frame as PNG. Stage stills on disk; Win+V will drop large frames at 4 MB.

Many apps paste a bitmap that has already been flattened onto white or black. Drop the PNG file when alpha matters. Snips of glass windows are not alpha.

History is a separate switch from the snip overlay. Ctrl+V can still work. Win+V will not. Large snips miss history even when it is on (4 MB).

The toast opens Snipping Tool’s editor. The overlay already copied the image. Dismissing the toast is not a failed save — unless auto-save is off.

Windows already answers: 25 mixed items, 4 MB each, gone at reboot unless pinned. A sensible visual policy is “this session, then the folder.”

Let ShareX capture, save, and copy. Let a shelf stage recent files for drag-out. They are not competitors. Win+V still handles leftover text.

Browser editors often want an upload or a granted clipboard paste. A desktop file drag from Explorer is more reliable than hoping Win+V reaches the tab.

Check Pictures/Screenshots, Win+V, Recycle Bin, and File History first. The live clipboard cannot undo after the next copy in this session now.

HDR screenshots often look washed out or blown out after paste because the clipboard stores an SDR bitmap, not the HDR signal you just saw in practice.

Personal UI reference is not the same as republishing another product's screens. Fair use is case-by-case; keep a private labeled library only.

A 16x16 favicon can copy just fine and still look like an empty Win+V card. Save the file; a history thumbnail is not proof it worked in practice.

Decide when to Paste pixels, Place a file, or drop from a shelf. Windows history will not hold your PSD files. Pins survive restart. The 4 MB cap still holds.

Figma desktop and the browser tab do not always publish the same Windows clipboard. Learn which copy command each surface actually honors. Limits apply.

On Windows, vectors rarely survive a hop between XD, Figma, and Sketch. Files and PNGs do; Sketch is macOS-only. Pins survive restart. The 4 MB cap still holds.

Park this week's logos and lockups on a shelf, not the desktop. Win+V pins are not a brand library. Official Libraries still win long-term. On Windows 11.

Save for Web is gone. Export As or Quick Export a named PNG, then drop the file into the mock. Do not recopy a flattened bitmap twice. On Windows 11.

Lightroom's Copy command copies Develop settings, not pixels. Catalogs, flags, and exports are the DAM. A clipboard manager cannot cull a shoot.

New from Clipboard makes a document. Paste Special on Windows picks the format. Vectors rarely survive a hop through Win+V. Export a file instead.

Canva's desktop app matches the browser editor. Uploads beat paste. Transparent PNGs and huge bitmaps fail more often than named files. On Windows 11.

Keep a small, named PNG and SVG kit for stream overlays, Slack, and Figma. Win+V can stage this week's stickers. A component library owns the rest.

Stage marked-up client screenshots in one project folder, not in Win+V. History is 25 items and dies at restart, and leftover UI is a leak. On Windows 11.

Named files in a repo or Dev Mode beat image (3).png in Slack. Use Figma export scales and a short checklist. Clipboard history is not a handoff.

Keep the OTF or TTF next to a PNG specimen in one folder or DAM stack. Win+V cannot store font files, only a bitmap preview that forgets at restart.

Export named 1:1, 4:5, and 16:9 files once, then drop them into the scheduler. Do not recrop from a Slack preview or a 25-item Win+V list. On Windows 11.

Never use a recaptured Slack, Teams, or Discord preview as the master. Download the original file or re-export. Chat is a pipe, not an archive.

After Effects can copy a frame to the clipboard for review. Timelines still need files: renders, stills, and GIFs on disk, not Win+V. On Windows 11.

Keep the sprint's HUD icons as named PNG or SVG files you can drop into the engine. Win+V can pin a few tiles. The atlas and repo own the set.

Culling is flags, stars, and a catalog: Lightroom, Bridge, or FastRawViewer. Do not invent a clipboard workflow for 2,000 RAW files. On Windows 11.

Duplicate slides inside PowerPoint when the deck is native. Insert a named PNG when the slide was designed in Figma. Do not paste chat previews.

Keep light and dark as two named exports or two Figma variants in one set. Do not store only one theme in Win+V and guess the other hex later.

Stop screenshot-driven UI as the system grows. Official Figma components, variants, and libraries update instances. Win+V PNGs do not. On Windows 11.

Packaging dielines are vector cut and fold paths. Copying one as a bitmap loses the geometry a printer needs and can trigger a costly reprint.

Creative Cloud Libraries sync design assets across devices for a subscription fee. A local clipboard shelf does not sync, but it never charges and never leaves the machine.

A folder of reference stills plus three pinned clips beats a 40-image Slack thread. Brief a videographer with files, not a chat history scavenger hunt.

Alt text belongs with the asset in the ticket, not in a clipboard note that detaches from the image. Keep accessibility metadata with the file, every time.

A seasonal campaign kit lives for two weeks. Pin the working set, ship the campaign, then unpin and wipe. Do not let last quarter's assets leak into next quarter's work.
